Weekend Fun

We had some visitors this weekend. My hubby's dad and his wife came out for the weekend. Had a nice visit with them. Our kids are the first of their generation on my hubby's side so they're still a pretty big deal. I know grandkids usually are, but the first are moreso.

Although, my brothers and I were the first for my moms parents and we were treated more like kids than grandkids. Her younger sister is only 10 years my senior, she brought my older brother in for her show and tell in kindergarten!

Anyhow, how awesome are these little clips I found on Etsy? Figured in honor of the visitors we had this weekend, I'd search "visitors" on Etsy and came up with these from KarmaBoxCom. Yes not the same sort of visitors we had, but still too funny not to share.

We went to the zoo while they were here. Just a nice day of sun and animals. My kids always have loved the zoo, we've been quite a few times over the past few years. Daughters favorite animal is the elephant. Etsy search, "elephant homefront" shows up with this adorable pink elephant from The Q Store. Pink even, my daughters favorite color... for now.

My son loves all the animals, monkeys, elephants and giraffes as well. Those are my favorites. Figured since I'd found some cute hairclips of "visitors" I'd show off this adorable giraffe from Cutesie Clips. Her clips really are cutesie!

Overall, we had a good weekend. The kids had fun showing off their rooms and toys as well as having granparents around to read to them and play with. Now it's back to business as usual. I've been working on a new pattern for the shop. Hope to have a pic for you tomorrow of what it will be! I really love the way it's turning out and am excited to share. For now, think about what one word sums up your day best, and give it a search on Etsy. Ya never know what you'll find!

Homefront Winter Challenge

It's Challenge time on the Homefront. This one was all about winter. There's snowflakes, sugar cookies, moose, snowmen, scarves, hats, all the things that make us think of winter.

My entry for the challenge is a snowflake. Being a Colorado girl living in California, I don't see many of them anymore, but can enjoy the beauty of winter in a different way now.

I remember my first winter here, a friend of mine sent me some shots of her snow covered house! Of course it was on my request. Just wanted to see what I was missing of winter. That white stuff that gives us a chill sure can be majestic. So here's to the snow, winter scenes of blistery days and magical nights.

Anyhow, here's my entry and a link to vote. All you have to do is look through the entries, and leave a note in the comments with your favorites name. Voting ends October 31st, so don't forget to vote!

Treatment No. 12

Has come and gone. He's done! Chemo is done! It hit my hubby yesterday. He came home from work with some sparkling cider to celebrate. He realized that he had all his weekends free again. We can do anything without having to worry about the next weekend being stuck to not do anything. The look of elation and liberation was in his eyes. He's thinking poker this weekend, and a bit of shopping.

The kids and I spent the time he was at the hospital for his last treatment at the store. Getting all the bits we'd need for Halloween costumes. Or so I thought! We need to pick up a few more things and then I can start on them. It is a joy making the costumes, yet since they are only worn once (my daughter wants to be a fairy this year, and I highly doubt we will reuse the costume for my son!) but they love them so. Only my second year making them, but I'm getting more familiar with the sewing machine. One fairy and scarecrow coming up before the end of the month!

A month where our weekends are ours and my hubby is on the road to remission. So crazy to think it's through.

I did want to leave you with a picture. Just one of the projects I've finished lately, I truley adore it! It's for a Homefront Challenge, but more on that another time. For now, just a tease :)

Wishing all health, happiness and big dreams for the coming season.

Feeling Disconnected

So it's been a few days since I've really been online. Busy week so far and I just figured out that it was Wednesday! Got a few projects to finish up, few blankets, purses and finished an entry into the Homefront Team Challenge that starts July 1st. No pics to show of anything, since the lighting is bad right now. Will have to share tomorrow.
On the life front, my hubby got orders out of his squadron for now. It seems they aren't quite comfortable with him working there while doing his chemo. Technically, he's not supposed to, but he's been doing well. He wants to go in and talk to them tomorrow about it all and see what can be done. He'd prefer to stay where he is at.
And with the 2 car household, still a 1 car household. At least the timing was good on fixing my hubby's car! Going to make calls and see what it'll cost to make some repairs on the family car so that hopefully I can drive again soon.
That's about all in a nutshell!

Stopping by

To say it's been a busy week! Have a few order to fullfill from Monday night's sale as well as some quick blankets I'd like to make up for KidsKonnected. They called me yesterday to see if our kids would be interested in a camp in our area. I think they're a little young for that. But I did ask them about donations. Be really easy to do some donations and it'll give me a chance to give back to those that gave to us, maybe help out some other kids figure out what is going on with their family. And I'll get to play around and be as creative as I'd like. Nice to know my blanket will be keeping someone comfy and happy.

We went to pick up some supplies so we could make some shirts, for daddy, pop pop and grandpa. My daughter asked that we included daddy's dad (poppop) as well as my dad (grandpa). Short notice really, but still will be a fun project.

On the creative front, after I finish my orders I've got to work on a challenge project as well for the Homefront team. I've got my idea in my head, (the challenge is all about the 4th of July, my favorite holiday) have started a little of it and have seen some really great entries so far. I'll post when mine is done as well as a link with the info on voting (voters receive 10% any participating stores).

The EtsyHookers are also starting a challenge that is due in July. It's a rainbow sort of thing :) Color, how it influences us and you must use 5 to 7 colors. Will have to start thinking on that as well.

I should get back to my hook and yarn! Happy day to all!

Memorial Day

Hope everyone has a safe and happy Memorial Day. Take the time to think of those that this holiday celebrates. I don't have many words of wisdom to share with you, however there are a few blogs I can turn you to instead. Homefront, Ella Bear, as well as TerryAnn wrote some great things on the holiday.

My daughter's response on the holiday came from making these. You can check the Homefront site to see what she said :)

As for a recipe, it's a simple cinnamon and sugar baked apple! Slice it cut out the core. Mix cinnamon, brown sugar, little wheat flour, ginger, nutmeg and a tsp of butter in a bowl. Reassemble each apple in some tin foil and fill the center. Stick it in the oven (350) for about 10-15 minutes and you're golden!

Treatment no. 2

Starts today. After Sunday, we're 1/6 of the way done. Although my husband said we shouldn't talk in fractions till he's under the halfway point. So if we were talking in fractions... that's where we'd be :) Today was supposed to be zoo day, but the weather did not cooperate! It was spittin' most of the day. And since the zoo is an outdoor sort of thing, we went shopping instead. Mostly things for around the house, but did pick up some beads to play with with the kids. So our fun thing while daddy was sitting in the hospital was to make necklaces with their names. My son isn't quite old enough to get the beads so he tried to sneak a few to eat. Never quite made it in the mouth. He does like his necklace though. It was a quick crafty thing to do. Although I have to figure out the better way to join the ends. Will have to ask around to those Homefront gals who do beaded jewelry

Also picked up a new teddy bear for my daughter. She wanted a pink one (of course) and so got a CareBear. Which is fitting since it's the one that is special for her to go through her book from Kids Konnected. Figured we'd look through that this weekend with her, now that she has the bear and daddy is once again getting his medicine. Sharing all with your feelings with your bear is what the book is about. And since sharing is caring :)

On the way to pick him up, the kids fell asleep in the car, but my girl woke up on the way home. She looked at me and said "Mom, it stopped spitting" I just like that description of a little rain. The picture it brings to mind of the heavens spitting on you is amusing.

And the winner is...

The envelope please... Across The Pond! Of course, she's really from here. But you can learn more about that on the post What's in a Name. She has a beautiful shop and since you've all seen what she won, (quick reminder)
I thought I'd showcase something simply stunning from her shop! Take a gander :)

Thanks for all the entries! I wish I could give you all a prize... but not sure that would be good business sense! However, you can see a complete list of winners as well as something a little extra for those that entered on the Homefront Blog.

Treasuries everywhere!

So a few of us Homefront gals snagged some treasuries! I made one, which I've not done in awhile. It's such a diverse group it's fun to look through and try and find what fits into your title. Since that is what you have to put in first. You can always plan out exactly what you'd like to put into a treasury and then wait for one to open and try to snag it. Or just wing it! I've seen some truly beautiful treasuries where I'm sure more thought is put into them. However, it was just fun since the treasury was open to showcase some my fellow Homefrontiers. You can view the treasury here.

You can go through and look at the other treasuries here, here, and here. I'm in a few of those as well, which is kinda fun. Thanks to FrayBaby, ScarletDgn, and BadCat for picking some interesting themes and beautiful items to showcase!

New Look

After spending countless hours on my blog last night, it's a brand new look. Thanks to those at Tips for New Bloggers I'm starting to figure out a bit more on how to change/read/understand html. At least to a point that I can fiddle a bit.

The one thing I did learn and remember to do, was the save my template before I went to make any changes to it! I still have the one I'm currently using on my pc. And for very good reason because my mouse can be a bit touchy and I accidently changed the entire template in a matter of a second. "NOOOOOOO!!! AAGGGGHHHH!!!" was heard in my house (possibly throughout the neighborhood) last night at about 10:30PM after having done so. The last template change I had saved was at least almost how I wanted it, not needing much tweaking. But man, that's why I do love Autosave on the posts themselves at least :)

Now I'll have to get back to creating and updating my store! I've a few new things to add and a special order to work on. As well as some promo stuff for a craftshow in FL. It'll be on a military base there, some of the Homefront gals are putting it on. I'll take pics of what I send to them (promo stuff as well as a little something for their baskets that will be auctioned off for charity). If you are around Tyndall Air Force Base and would like more info, you can check out Amanda she's one of the few heading it up! I thought there was a blog posting about this event, but now am unable to find it. Been up too long already today :)

Monday Madness Easter Style

This past Monday Madness covered St. Patty's Day. It looked like the gals had fun and held down the fort. I wasn't able to take part in it. But did want to showcase a bit of what people have in their shops that'd work great for the holiday :) Enjoy! Some tweet vintage easter treat cups...
A Boo Boo Bunny for any toddler on the go (they can be made in assorted colors) ...Tub Critters (to keep the kids clean after all those treats)! To remember the fun of Easter day...

A blanket bunny to tuck them in with... And a soothing bath to end a wonderful family holiday. Here's even some salts for you!
Go to etsy.com and search the Promotions Forums for Homefront this Monday from 1600PST-2100PST. I've put a few links in to help you out.

New Month Already!

So I sit here looking at my computer screen realizing it is already March, and I've not posted anything new in how long? Well, the Military Madness Monday on etsy went well. We had some fun, few sales, one for me :) And we did it again last week, and will be there again this week. It's really easy to find us, http://www.etsy.com/forums_main.php and do a search for Homefront. It'll bring you to the latest thread, each and every Monday! We really are a diverse group of sellers there, who have it all! From beautiful jewelry...

to boutique children's clothing...

to photography... and beautiful aprons. I could go on... but you'll just have to check us all out (all 60+ of us!)
On another note, I've almost finished the body of my daughters sweater, and made a rug. I will post pics tomorrow night. It has just been a crazy ride this week, such is life :)

Crochet a day...

I've been trying to complete one thing a day for the past few days... I've managed to start at least one, maybe two a day... and finished a few in between! My daughter's latest request is a dragon that is pink and green. Still not quite sure how to start that one so it's in my mind. But I did manage to start a sweater for her, it's knit, and will be the second sweater I've made. Of course, it's a basic garter stitch sweater that I managed to change a bit (you know what happens when you fall asleep at the needles and just go on auto?) it's looking good though with the variations in it.

Also started a new blanket bear, although this one will be a bunny (crochet of course). I love to do these just because every blanket is different. You can see a few in my shop, in the sold items as well as listed. It depends on what my mood is as to how it turns out. I'll post that one when it is done. I did however finish a new puppet, as well as some flowers. No pics of the flowers yet. But here's Solly.

I did also manage to make a light box.

I do like the way Solly came out because of it, however I need to get a bit better lamp to use to go along with it. It was really easy, cut a cardboard box and found a use for some scraps of cotton I had lying around!

One more thing before I go, EtsyHomefront will be having a Military Madness Monday tomorrow! All of us Homefront gals will be having sales, or at least chatting around while most of us have sales :) Mine will be listed in my shop announcement starting at 5pm EST (2pm PST for me) and will continue on through the night. Well ok, it's free shipping on all orders, just add MMM to the buyers note and wait for a revised invoice. So check us out! Not sure what the thread will be as it has not started, but send me a comment or come on down to Etsy and check under community, forums for all the specials. We really are an eclectic bunch!
